13/11/2014 task 02

Hot-seating

"You continued to explore the TAXI DRIVER.

You did a whole class hot-seat."

Why is hot-seating an effective technique to use in a rehearsal?

Hot-seating is an effective technique to use in rehearsals because you get to know a little bit more about a character and their backstory. You also get  to see how different people visualise  a character, other than how you visualise a character.

What did you learn about the driver?

I have learnt that the taxi driver has quite a boring life because they spend all their time driving around in a car and listening to the radio and eating a lot of take away food. They are not exactly nice to their fellow members of the public 100% of the time. It really depends on if they are in the mood or not.

13/11/2014 task 01

Working on the Prologue.

"You created the prologue in pairs by adding in the other character’s lines.
What questions is the taxi driver asking and answering, what lines aren’t in the text?

You needed to think about staging this with imagination (not sat one behind the other, with the driver holding an imaginary steering wheel).

You had time to create, rehearse and then share some/all and discuss."

What did you create and why?

My partner Jamie and I positioned our section of the scene with the taxi driver standing on a chair and the customer standing in front of them. This is because we thought that it would make the audience focus more on what the characters were saying and who has the higher status.

What did another pair do that was effective?

Tara and Alabama used a chair and sat the taxi drive down whilst the customer circles the taxi driver. They set the tone of the text as if the taxi driver did something bad and they are questioning them, which was different to how other people set their parts of the scene.

27/11/14 my monologue (handwritten)

Sorry

Hello Miss Goodall,

Sorry there has been no homework for the past 2 weeks. Honestly, I didn't know that my tasks haven't been uploading on here and I have only sorted it out today so I will redo all of my tasks and put them up this week. Please forgive me.

Homework 01 11/11/14

  • 1.What did you think of it and why?

  • I thought the play was very interesting and it is different compared to a lot of normal scripts. Regular scripts you would generally see it tells one story throughout, however, in this script it tells many stories about peoples lives and what they are witnessing around them. I really like how the writer writes the sorry as if its kind of like a monologue and I really like the way the writer writes all the pieces in a kind of cockney slang because you get a very strong feeling on how they speak towards each other and the way they pronounce words compared to a person from London is different as well.

  • What is the play about?

  • It is about these people at the 'East End' who share their stories of what they saw or experience and they express their in thoughts I think.
(I am not 100% sure but that is what I want to find out more on this unit.)

    2. What was your favourite tale? Why?
I think my favourite tale was tale 6 because it was about a guy watching his drunk and mean-ish brother at a pub and how he started off being a very mean and kind of aggressive person, then it instantly changes when he meets a nice, friendly woman and decides to open up to her, despite she is a total stranger. I thought it was a really sweet story and very realistic.

    3. At the start of the session you were asked about what you thought of the East End.

    • What did you know at the start of the session
At the start of the lesson I honestly didn't know anything about the East End.

    • What knowledge did you develop by the end of the session?
The knowledge I developed at the end of the session was that the East End is a very calm place filled with different people and they have cockney accents.

    4. What did your group do when you were asked to explore one of the tales?

We decided to have someone read some of the lines that were important in the tale and the other two would mime it out and we would then discuss from our views how the characters were feeling and what was the main thing happening in thee story.
